19 - Yarmouth Boys 6, Cape Elizabeth 7: It
took an awesome defensive effort, but Cape Elizabeth
ended Yarmouth´s two-year reign as the Class
B boys´ lacrosse state champion Saturday. Tom
Foden, who was nursing a sore shoulder, scored three
goals as the Capers eked out a 7-6 victory against
the Clippers at Fitzpatrick Stadium to claim their
first state title in nine years.

scored for top-ranked Yarmouth on Saturday night as
it advanced to the Eastern Class B schoolboy lacrosse
championship game with a 17-7 victory against fourth-ranked
North Yarmouth Academy. Yarmouth (12-1) will be home
for the final Wednesday against St. Dominic of Auburn.

Robbins scored five goals and Danielle Torres added
three for the second-seeded Clippers (10-3), who took
a 12-0 lead against the third-ranked Tigers (8-5) in
an Eastern Class B semifinal at Yarmouth. Becca Bell
and Brenna Bialek added four goals and three assists
each. Brooke Davis scored twice for Gardiner. |

and Colby Shields scored four goals each as the Clippers
(11-1) downed Greely (5-6) at Yarmouth. Steve Petrovek
added three goals and two assists for the Clippers,
who opened a 12-0 lead in the first half. Henry also
had two assists and Shields provided one. Austin Spencer
scored twice for the Rangers. |

28 - Yarmouth Boys 7, Cape Elizabeth 10: CAPE
ELIZABETH — All Cape Elizabeth boys´ lacrosse
Coach Ben Raymond wanted was for his team to play better
in the second half Friday night. The Capers did even
better than that. Recovering from an early five-goal
deficit, Cape scored nine goals during the final 24
minutes to rally to a 10-7 win against previously unbeaten
Yarmouth in a Class B boys´ lacrosse game.

Class B girls' lacrosse: The Waynflete Flyers have that
championship look once again. Monday afternoon on the
turf at Yarmouth High, playing against a team seeking
to avenge a loss from earlier this spring, the Flyers
came out sizzling, grabbed a 5-0 lead and never looked

Despite losing several standouts to graduation and having
to play a challenging schedule in the first half of
the 2010 season, the two-time defending Class B state
champion Yarmouth Clippers boys' lacrosse team continues
to have no peer. The Clippers, who have already downed
top rivals Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth and North Yarmouth
Academy, welcomed old friend Brunswick to town Saturday
afternoon for a rare crossover matchup. Yarmouth never
allowed the defending Eastern A champions to get comfortable,
racing to an 8-1 halftime and cruising to a decisive

13-9, at Yarmouth.

rainy showdown at perennial power Yarmouth, the Scarborough
girls' lacrosse team knew it was pretty good. Now,
the Red Storm have to feel invincible. After a solid
50-minute effort in which they never trailed, the
Red Storm beat the Clippers for the first time, 13-9,
thanks to clutch second half goalkeeping from senior
Marina Sterrer and a balanced scoring attack, improving
to 4-0 on the season while handing Yarmouth (4-2)

scored four goals, including a three-goal run in the
second half, as Waynflete (3-1) held off Yarmouth (4-1)
at Portland. The Flyers led 4-3 at halftime but the
Clippers came back to make it 5-5 with 15 minutes left.
Woodhouse then scored her three straight. Amy Allen
of Waynflete, and Rebecca Verrill and Danielle Torres

3 - Yarmouth boys' lax holds off Cape, 8-4, keeps home

YARMOUTH—They
call it the "elephant in the room" and for
at least another night, it stayed out of sight. The
"it" in this case is awareness of the fact
that the powerhouse Yarmouth boys' lacrosse team hasn't
lost a game on its turf field since 2002, something
the current players are all too aware of. If that's
not pressure enough, consider that the program hasn't
dropped a contest anywhere in nearly two years. On
Monday night, however, the Clippers got a stern test
from longtime fierce rival Cape Elizabeth. Read

delicious showdowns in recent days. There were four
compelling battles in a six-day span, two each on
the boys' and girls' sides, that simply reinforced
that the best lacrosse in the state continues to be
